It is the start of a new year, so of course you are going to be bombarded left and right with new years resolutions of getting healthy. This article will be no exception. One of my personal goals this year is to become healthier in all aspects of my life, of course eating being one of them. That being said, I’d like to discus some ways in which individuals can become healthier in their eating without making huge, major changes.
First, something that I have known about forever, but recently experienced on a personal level, is good allergies. It just takes a simple blood test and you can find out what foods you are allergic to. By eliminating these foods from your diet, you will have a better immune system and more overall energy. Food allergies can occur at any time in your life, so if you were tested as a child and are now an adult, consider getting tested again as some might have developed in the span of your life.
Second, it is important to follow the food pyramid when trying to eat healthy. This is a great source of the essential food groups and how much of each you should be trying to eat on a daily basis. I know I for one have a tendency to do really good in some groups and poorly or eliminate other groups. For instance I’m great at eating fruits and veggies, but I for the most part completely eliminate sweets. Not necessarily good. I just need to eat them in moderation. They are a pyramid for a reason. The different food groups work together as a whole to keep your body running as efficiently as possible. Certain fad diets will tell you to eliminate this or that, however each type of food has nutrients that your body needs you just need to learn how to eat the correct amount of each thing.
Third, one of the biggest things you can do to eat healthier is to reduce your portion sizes. I am firm believer in this because I know it works from experience. We live in the land of “super size” everything. Every time you go out to eat chances are you are getting at least twice the normal portion of food. We are conditioned to eat a lot, but unless we are working out and losing a bunch of calories every day we don’t need to eat as much. Read food labels and try to follow the portion sizes that are listed on the container of food. You aren’t dieting, you are following the portion you should eat according to the FDA. Personally, I have found this to be the most effective way to actually lose weight and keep it off!
Lastly, not only is it important to eat well, but you also need to drink well. Water is so important to keep every part of your body working properly and in optimum condition. That being said, you will want to make sure and drink the recommended amount of water each day. At a minimum you should be drinking 48oz of water daily. A great way to make sure you have a good supply of water is to get it delivered to your home. If you want more info on water delivery services check out Nicolet Natural Artesian Water.
